Earth Month Events: Let's Learn, Take Action & Celebrate Together!
Welcome to Earth Month! While most of us think mainly about Earth Day celebrations (they’re pretty great, we’ll get to those in a moment), there’s so many more ways to show our appreciation for our amazing mountain environment this April.
In honor of Earth Month, we’re taking a break from talking about screenprinting and embroidery to share some of our favorite upcoming events and activities with you! This April, we encourage you to pick a day to learn, take action, and celebrate our environment with one of the activities and events below.
Learn: Attend an Environmental Talk or Film
April 4 & 5: Wild and Scenic Film Festival, King’s Beach
Get ready to enjoy 1.5 hours of awe-inspiring, family-friendly films in North Lake Tahoe. Wild & Scenic is the perfect way to kick off Earth Month 2025. April 5: Home Composting

Take Action: At a clean-up day or by contacting your representative
April 8: Sierra Day at the Capitol
The mountains are coming to Sacramento. Sierra Day at the Capitol is an event coordinated by the Sierra Nevada Alliance, Sierra Business Council, and the League to Save Lake Tahoe to advocate for specific resource investments in the state budget, a climate bond to support our collective conservation and restoration goals and to highlight the importance of the Sierra to California. Members of the Sierra Nevada conservation community and the interested public are invited to attend. Together, we will advocate for critical actions to bring more protection, support, and funding to the vastly underfunded Sierra Nevada region.
Participants will hear from key state and regional leaders, network with like-minded individuals and organizations, receive training about how to share messaging with legislators and take part in advocacy meetings at the Capitol.
May 3: Great Community Clean Up
Join KTMB across the Truckee Meadows at over 20 beautification and cleanup sites throughout the Reno/Sparks area. We will tackle illegal dumpsites, neighborhood parks, and other beautification projects in the area.
Every Day: 5 Calls
Once your congressperson forms a public stance on an issue, it’s hard for them to walk it back. The earlier they hear your opinion, the more likely it is you’ll make an impact. Calling is by far the most effective way to ensure that your representative hears you before they take a public stance..
5 Calls is an app designed to make it easy for U.S. constituents to make a political impact. Learn about key issues through the app and use it to place calls to your congressperson.
Celebrate: With an Earth Day Festival
April 26: Tahoe Truckee Earth Day Festival
One of the largest Earth Day celebrations in the region, the free community event takes place at The Village at Palisades Tahoe from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and gives kids and adults the opportunity to learn about recycling, composting, alternative energy, and sustainability through hands-on activities the whole family can enjoy. This event is a community tradition to learn about sustainable products and services offered by local organizations and businesses, meet with local area nonprofits that share Earth Day values, as well as showcasing local entertainment. Our goal is to connect the community with the people and resources found in our region who foster innovation, initiate change and ultimately implement an equitable partnership for a green planet.
April 19: South Lake Tahoe Earth Day
The goal of The South Lake Tahoe Earth Day Festival, a volunteer run, non-profit event is to recognize, celebrate and promote the region’s unique beauty and to educate the public regarding how to preserve and protect our local and global natural resources. The Tahoe Earth Day Foundation is also working to increase the effort around solid waste management and will continue to work towards its goal of hosting a Zero Waste and Carbon Neutral event.
Our local Earth Day celebration is one of the largest environmental education events in the area. The event provides local residents and visitors an opportunity to learn about the various environmental issues that affect South Lake Tahoe. The South Lake Tahoe Earth Day festival is hosted primarily by volunteers of the Tahoe Earth Day Foundation, a local non-profit, with the support of other non-profits, local agencies, businesses and dedicated supporters.
April 19: Reno Earth Day. Idlewild Park
Join us for Reno Earth Day at Idlewild Park, an award-winning, eco-friendly celebration of sustainability and community action. This family-friendly event features hundreds of local non-profits and artisans, showcasing eco-friendly products, services, and ideas.
