How Are You Celebrating Earth Month?
Here in Truckee, Tahoe, and Reno, there’s so many amazing ways to share our love for all things outdoors. From festivals to educational events and volunteer opportunities, it’s hard not to find something (or a few things) we can’t wait to check. We encourage you to do the same. This Earth Month, we encourage you to find new ways to celebrate, both with your community and independently.
Earth Day Festivals
Earth Day Festivals are a great way to learn, celebrate, get involved, and connect with your eco-community…all at once. Each of our region’s Earth Day festivals offer live music, dance performances, vendor booths, and nonprofit-run educational activities. Truckee’s festival will feature the annual student-run TRASHion show, a Wild and Scenic Film Festival Showing, and music throughout the day.

Educational Events
The Wild & Scenic Film Festival inspires environmental activism and a love for nature–through film. Wild & Scenic shares an urgent call to action, encouraging festival-goers to learn more about what they can do to save our threatened planet. In addition to their annual festival in Nevada City, they host smaller Wild & Scenic On Tour events throughout the year in partnership with local organizations. This Earth Month, enjoy a selection of environmental films at any of the locations below. Each event will be screening a different mix of movies.

With Mountain Area Preservation, The Village at Palisades – Saturday April 20, 6-9p
With the Sierra Nevada Alliance, Valhalla’s Boat House Theatre, includes an optional Bounty Dinner – Monday April 22, 5-10:30p
Can’t make it to a showing? Prefer to learn at home? Both the North and South sides of our lake recommend family-friendly activities and easy ways to make a difference, on your own schedule. And Earthday.org offers additional resources and events to explore, wherever you are.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteering is one of our favorite ways to celebrate Earth Month! There’s always so many amazing opportunities to get involved. Every year, our local organizations host volunteer events to encourage everyone to join their community in speaking with politicians, cleanup up trash, and other projects. They’re an easy and social way to make a different.
Looking to make a difference throughout the year? When you visit your local Earth Day Festival, get to know the nonprofits tabling around the fair. They’re often looking for help, and events like these are great ways to match your personal skillset and interests with the organizations who need them the most.
