Apr 25, 2019
f you live in California we’re sure you’ve noticed labels on products and maybe even on a building that mention “Prop 65”. Have you ever taken the time to think about what the label is telling you or what Prop 65 really is?
Proposition 65, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, focuses on the effect that some chemicals that are in, and/or used to make, products, have on our drinking water in California. Prop 65 is meant to inform and educate consumers about the products they are buying and using. For just over 30 years, California has been requiring the a list of chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects, and other issues, and the rates considered toxic, to be published so that it can be easily found by the general public. The overall goal of Prop 65 is to ensure that the drinking water is kept safe and non-toxic.
